Phonics

"House Bill 3, issued by the 86th Texas Legislature in 2019, directs all Texas school districts to provide a phonics curriculum that uses systematic, direct instruction in kindergarten through third grade to ensure all students obtain necessary early-literacy skills." (Texas Resource Review, 2022, https://texasresourcereview.org/commissioners-list-recommended-phonics-programs).

Spring Hill ISD has adopted Discovery, published by Reading Horizons. More information on Discovery can be found by visiting the Reading Horizons webpage at https://www.readinghorizons.com/

In addition to adopting a phonics program district-wide, Spring Hill ISD has also adopted a phonemic awareness program for kindergarten through third grade. Heggerty Phonemic Awareness helps our students understand that all words are made up of sounds. Through this program, students not only learn that words are made up of individual sounds, but they also learn how to blend, segment, and manipulate sounds.
