Mrs. Silverman's Kindergarten Class

Welcome to Kindergarten
Welcome to Ms. Silverman's kindergarten class webpage!

A little bit about myself...
My name is Lauren Silverman and I am so excited I get to be your child's kindergarten teacher!  I was born and raised in Diana, Texas.  After graduating high school, I attended Stephen F. Austin State University.  I have been teaching for 16 years...I have taught pre-k, kindergarten, and first grade, but kindergarten is my FAVORITE because we get to have so much fun while we learn! I have two kiddos of my own- Kylie and Austin. Kylie is in fifth grade at Spring Hill Intermediate, and Austin is in third grade at Spring Hill Intermediate. We LOVE being a part of the Spring Hill community and are so blessed to be panthers!!

What will we do in kindergarten?
In kindergarten, we do most of our learning in small group settings and in learning centers.  We have reading small group time/literacy centers, and we have math small group time/math tubs.  Teaching students in a small group setting helps me to ensure that each group of students is receiving lessons on their exact learning level.  We also have several large group learning times throughout the day on our big rug where we will read books, sing songs, discuss learning objectives with our friends, and share our writing with each other.  We will also have a daily writer's workshop time in which I will do an interactive writing lesson with the students on big chart paper, and then students will get to have their own writing time using their writer's workshop journals.  Kindergarten also gets to participate in developmental centers each day to help build our social and emotional skills.  Our developmental centers include dramatic play (home center), blocks, puzzles, art, legos, magnets, and technology. Speaking of technology, students will have a 30 minute technology time each day.  Our district uses a computer program called Istation that focuses on building alphabet knowledge, phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, vocabulary, and comprehension.  It is a wonderful program that really helps the students build important literacy skills needed for reading.  Students will have 30 minutes of recess each day and will also attend specials (p.e./music) each day. Students also get to go to the library once a week.
